Sherman County Arrest History
Sherman County arrests may be made by the sheriff, Stratford Police Department, Texas DPS or Highway Patrol, and other state or federal officers acting locally. Each arresting agency creates its own narrative or probable-cause material. If a person enters local custody, the Sherman County Jail creates a separate booking record. The combined clerk becomes involved only after a prosecutor files a court case.
An arrest history is therefore a set of linked events, not one document. The incident report explains the occurrence and officer action. Booking data records intake. The prosecutor's information or indictment states the filed allegation, and the judgment records the court result. DPS may later assemble reported fingerprint-linked events in the Texas Computerized Criminal History system. None of those records can be used as a substitute for all the others.
Finding Recent Sherman County Arrests
Sherman County publishes no official booking log, jail roster, arrest blotter, warrant database, or sheriff app. For a same-day custody question, call the jail at 806-366-5551. Ask whether the person is presently held and how to request the releasable booking details. A telephone answer is a starting point, not a certified arrest record.
The official sheriff and jail page supplies the verified contact route:
This county source confirms where current custody and historical booking requests begin without suggesting that an online roster exists.

Looking Up Sherman County Arrests
No single search covers every Sherman County arrest record. Start with the channel closest in time to the event, then check the later stage only when it exists.
- For current custody, call the Sherman County Jail. Use the full name and an approximate arrest time, then note any booking or cause number staff can release.
- Ask the arresting agency for the public or redacted incident report. Sheriff records use the jail contact; Stratford police reports go to the city's custodian; a DPS report goes to DPS.
- Send a focused written Texas Public Information Act request for historical sheriff booking or arrest material. Include the incident or booking number, date, location, agency, and desired delivery format.
- After charges may have been filed, search iDocket and contact the combined clerk at 806-366-2371 for the official court papers and disposition.
- For one's own statewide Texas review, use DPS public conviction data for its limited public scope or FAST fingerprints for an identity-confirmed personal review.
Current jail custody, a local agency report, a clerk judgment, and DPS criminal-history data answer different questions. A no-hit in one channel does not clear the others.
Three Sherman County Arrest Records
The best source changes with the question. Request the arresting agency narrative to understand why custody occurred. Ask the jail for booking and release data. Seek the signed judgment from the combined clerk to learn how filed charges ended. A short booking charge can change after prosecutor review, so matching only the charge label may produce a false conclusion.
| Record | Custodian | Best use |
|---|---|---|
| Incident or arrest report | Sheriff, Stratford PD, DPS, or other arresting agency | Allegations, place, time, probable cause, evidence, and officer action |
| Booking record | Sherman County Jail | Intake time, agency, presented charge, bond, and release or transfer |
| Case file and judgment | Combined County and District Clerk | Filed charge, docket events, plea, disposition, and sentence |
If the court stage is the real question, the Sherman County criminal court case search explains how to move from iDocket to the clerk's official papers.
Inside a Sherman County Arrest Record
A public Sherman County arrest response may contain both incident and booking fields, but protected data can be removed. Juvenile information, victim identifiers, driver-license numbers, medical details, investigative facts, and jail security material may be restricted. Ask for the public or redacted version rather than assuming the entire internal file is open.
| Incident Number | Identifies the agency occurrence and helps staff locate the narrative report. |
|---|---|
| Arrest Date & Place | Places the custody event in time and identifies the likely agency and jurisdiction. |
| Booking Number | Identifies the county jail intake record and related custody events. |
| Arresting Agency | Names the office that holds the incident or probable-cause report. |
| Charge | States the allegation presented at intake, which may differ from the later filed charge. |
| Bond | May show amount and type, but does not prove that release occurred. |
| Booking Photograph | Captured during intake; Sherman County publishes no official mugshot gallery or release policy online. |
| Release Status | May show release, transfer, or current custody as of the record's update. |
Other fields may include fingerprints, demographic descriptors, warrant number, magistrate, property, evidence, and the receiving or releasing authority. Their public availability depends on the record and governing law.
How Sherman County Arrests Reach DPS
When a person is booked for a reportable offense, the booking agency records fingerprints, a photograph, arrest charges, identifiers, and a tracking or control number. That fingerprint-supported event is transmitted to the Texas Department of Public Safety Crime Records Division. Prosecutors and courts later report charging and disposition data into the same event cycle.
This flow can break or lag. A record may be missing a final disposition, linked under incomplete identifiers, never supported by fingerprints, or not yet reported. The public DPS conviction name search is narrower than a subject's fingerprint review and publishes eligible conviction and deferred-adjudication information. A name and date-of-birth match is not positive identification.
Record flow: Arresting Agency › Sherman Jail Booking › Fingerprint Event to DPS › Prosecutor Filing › Court Disposition Update
Note: Reporting time and identity matching can create gaps, so compare the local jail, clerk, and DPS sources before reaching a conclusion.
Booking Logs and Recent Arrests
There is no Sherman County booking log to browse. The absence of a public roster does not mean that no arrest occurred. Call the jail for current status, identify the arresting agency, and use a written request for historical booking data. If an arrest was made by Stratford Police Department, the city holds the police narrative while the county jail holds the booking record.
A recent event may not yet appear in iDocket because the prosecutor has not filed a case. Several days later, a cause number may appear, but the booking charge and filed charge may not match. For an older event, pair the agency report with the final clerk judgment. That approach preserves both the initial context and the legal outcome.
Sherman County Arrest Bond Records
After arrest, a magistrate addresses the accusation, rights, counsel, and bail matters without unnecessary delay. This initial paper can be separate from the later county or district docket. Texas Code of Criminal Procedure Chapter 17 governs bail and bond, while the clerk or jail can identify the court that set a listed amount.
- Cash bond
- Money is deposited under the applicable release terms.
- Surety bond
- A third party guarantees the required court appearance.
- Personal bond
- Release rests on a promise and any conditions imposed by the court.
- Hold
- Another charge, warrant, jurisdiction, or unfinished process may prevent release despite a listed bond.
A bond figure does not mean that a person has left jail. Ask the jail about present status and the clerk for the bond order. Do not use the clerk's payment bureau code as a bond-payment channel unless the clerk confirms that exact purpose.
Sherman Jail or State Prison
The Sherman County Jail handles local custody. It is not the place to search for a person serving a Texas prison sentence. The TDCJ Online Inmate Search uses fields such as last name, first name, TDCJ number, SID, gender, and race. A known identifier is more precise than a common name.
The official state-prison locator interface shows that separate custody layer:
TDCJ results may include location, offense data, and a projected release date, but projected dates can change.
TDCJ also publishes online, phone, and email inmate-information routes:
Use those channels when the online locator fails, then return to the county jail if the person may be in local pretrial custody.
Federal custody is different again. The official Bureau of Prisons locator is the federal channel:
A federal locator result does not supply the local sheriff narrative or a Sherman County booking record.
Arrests Are Not Convictions
An arrest records a custody event based on an allegation and legal authority. A conviction records a court's judgment of guilt. Release, prosecutor rejection, dismissal, no bill, or acquittal can follow an arrest. Even when a conviction follows, the final offense may differ from the booking charge.
| Arrest Record | Conviction Record |
|---|---|
| Created by the arresting agency and jail | Created by the court and reported by the clerk |
| Proves that custody and booking were recorded | Records a judgment of guilt |
| Lives with the agency and Sherman County Jail | Lives in the court file and eligible DPS history |
| May be followed by release, no filing, or dismissal | May be followed by sentence, appeal, expunction, or nondisclosure where law permits |
Note: A Sherman County arrest is not proof of guilt, and many booking allegations change or never become a filed charge.
